ABOUT CAROL BURBANK, Ph.D.

Since receiving her Ph.D. in 1998 from Northwestern University's Performance Studies Department, Carol has been exploring the core questions that bring her to StoryweavingTM healing and coaching:

*What is the source of human freedom and creativity?

*How can we make inevitable change our ally instead of our enemy?

*What tools do we need to live and work with integrity?

"Performance Studies explores what it means to be human, from our cultural norms and entertainments to our private rituals and roles. I started my practice long before I learned holistic energy work or taught intercultural leadership in China; with every student I mentored, every interview I logged, and every research topic I approached, my main goal was to find a space where integrity, healing, and honest communication could open up greater freedom. I believe we can all make healthier choices, and find a clearer path to the joy and human connection at the core of our true selves. Now I use Performance Studies to work with people who want to transform physical, emotional, personal and professional challenges into opportunities, recharging their lives from their core sense of who they are and who they might become."

She is a writer, mentor, educator and healer. She is a Senior Fellow at the Burns Academy of Leadership at the University of Maryland, and Secretary of the Board of Unhanepalekana, Souls Without Danger, a non-profit dedicated to preserving traditional Hawaiian culture and healing strategies. She specializes in helping people create new choices in their lives and work -- starting where we are, being conscious about where we want to go, and building flexibility and creativity into every day.

THE EVOLUTION OF STORYWEAVINGTM

StoryweavingTM started as part of my teaching and mentoring work with university students and corporate clients. I used my theatre and storytelling training to help my students understand the practical dynamics of a culture. By identifying and shaping the stories that fuel thoughts and practices, we were able to create processes to build community, clarity and healthy relationships.

When I started my Reiki practice, I discovered that energy work opened a unique space for creative problem-solving. For a wide range of challenges, this space took people away from the habitual assumptions that kept them in a rut, and brought them new tools and insights. I expanded the healing modalities and coaching approaches I could use to tap these insights. In addition to being a Reiki Master in traditional Usui Reiki Ryoho, I am certified in Cranio-Sacral Therapy and in Hawaiian Energetics, and trained in Dreamtending, Archetype Analysis, ORSC Coaching, EFT(Emotional Freedom Technique), Problem-Based Learning and Boal's Community Theatre techniques.

I have used StoryweavingTM to support individual clients struggling with physical, emotional and creative challenges, to train groups and organizations in living an effective vision, to offer writing support for individuals and corporations and to teach leadership in Mainland China.

StoryweavingTM is such satisfying and effective work because we focus on the stories that fuel our lives, transforming the stories that block progress, effectiveness, health and joy. In a short series of sessions or trainings, we strengthen the key stories that fuel success and creativity. Then, we assess what's next, make an effective plan, and celebrate the practical possibilities of living with lower stress, higher energy and clear vision.
