How practical is this work? My life/my organization deals with concrete problems. How can StoryweavingTM help?

Every day we face choices and challenges that offer us an opportunity to soar -- to soar above petty fears, limiting beliefs, illness, small ideas about ourselves and others. In order to soar, we need to be able to choose and manifest the story we want to live, both in our personal lives and the organizations where we work, worship and socialize. The stories that run our lives CREATE OUR DAILY EXPERIENCE, SHAPE OUR EXPECTATIONS, and DETERMINE OUR REACTIONS TO CHALLENGES AND RELATIONSHIPS. There is nothing more practical than StoryweavingTM.

Our choices show in our reactions, relationships, productivity, stress levels, emotional and physical health. For someone struggling with an old habit or a difficult situation, sometimes our response doesn't feel like a choice, so it's hard to feel strong and focused enough to deal with the everyday problems we face. That's why coaching, storyweaving, and mentoring are so important as we move through the transition from knee-jerk reactions to situations to realizing that we have the power and the tools to turn challenges into opportunities.

It's easier than you think, and at the same time, it takes commitment. I work with my clients to honor their process, celebrate their strengths and courage, and ease their physical, emotional and situational stress. Without false cheer or bland affirmations, we find ways to evaluate the stories you're living, and expand the possibility of living a better story.

What's the connection between the energy and coaching work in individual StoryweavingTM with the organizational work you also do?

I don't know if you've personally experienced a life with many different careers, but that's been my personal story! I understand from recent sociologists that most of us will change careers at least four times in our working lives. For me, StoryweavingTM is a philosophy that brings together all the work I've been lucky enough to experience, all the skills I've developed in my life as a teacher, a professor, a journalist and creative writer, a mentor, a trainer, an administrator and a healer.

What a journey it's been to arrive here at StoryweavingTM! Whether I'm training Chinese CEO's in Beijing or working with an artist, graduate student, or job-shifter in my Accokeek or Silver Spring office, my main goal is to facilitate individuals and organizations through the inevitable and often painful transitions that are an ordinary part of modern life. I believe change can be opportunity, but I know that change is hard, so I developed StoryweavingTM to make sure that we can meet the challenge creatively and practically together. That's the common thread between group work and individual healing work.

Also, as I have often said, energy is energy. The energy of a group and the energy of an individual are not unconnected, as anyone who has worked with others knows! So my skills in organizational culture and leadership support my clients who are working through their relationships at work and in their communities. And my skills in reading and balancing individual energies make me a better facilitator, because I bring a greater sensitivity to the ways individuals move through group dynamics.

Fundamentally, StoryweavingTM is supported by flexible strategies that work for a variety of people and groups. The processes I use are different, adapted to fit the person, the organization, the challenge. Because I tailor the experience to the client's needs and request, the people I work with get what they need, not a cookie-cutter session or formulaic workshop.

How can StoryweavingTM help in healing illness?

One of my clients who is fighting cancer reported that his doctor recommended four things to support his healing: stick to the prescribed course of treatment, walk, eat plenty of protein in a balanced diet, and keep a good attitude. Illness is more than biology: it's the stories we tell ourselves about how healing happens, complicated by our beliefs about whether we deserve to be whole or to suffer, and the myths that we inherit with our culture and family. StoryweavingTM helps clarify our beliefs, goals, strengths and needs. As a result, it is easier to get what we need from our doctors, our support network, and ourselves. Because of the stress relief and pain management that often comes with storyweaving through Reiki, and the balancing and resources from CST and Hawaiian Energetics, clients feel healthier and encouraged. Illness, chronic or unexpected, becomes more manageable, less intimidating, less powerful -- in effect, easier to deal with and easier to beat.

How can StoryweavingTM free up my creative energy?

Creativity is flow. StoryweavingTM releases blocks, clears up limiting beliefs, and refocuses your energy so that you can join the flow that feeds your creativity. One of my clients was looking for a way to paint stories into her artwork; she not only released a sense of despair about her work, she also remembered a series of poems she'd tucked away, and realized she had the source for new art in those stories. Another client broke through her writer's block, realizing that she was limiting her vision because of unnecessary fear. Another client created a whole new vision for her business, based on her experience being in the flow of her own Storyweaving journeyTM. Everyone's journey is different; everyone's creativity is unique. Storyweaving lets you find your path into the rich flow of your creative power.

How can StoryweavingTM help with personal and job transitions?

The most difficult challenge in life transitions is that we want to hold on to what is good without letting go of the opportunity to claim something better. So we get frozen and frustrated. StoryweavingTM reduces your stress level, and helps you see what you most value, connecting you to what I call your "inner compass." You find "true north," that point where your integrity, dreams, and possibilities meet. You identify your strengths by connecting with your deepest self, and find out what's really holding you back. You can release limiting beliefs, opening up choices that were invisible as long as you were blinded by assumptions and fears that no longer serve you. Once your vision is grounded and clear, obstacles drop away. Transitions become easier, because you know what you want and what you value, so you can make healthy decisions and achieve your dreams.
